Biowulf User Account Renewals

Aug 2013.

Recently, a new group called the NIH High-Performance Computing (HPC) Working Group was convened. The overall goal of this group is to provide guidance to NIH leadership on computing strategies and initiatives specifically related to advancing the scientific mission of the NIH Intramural Research Program. An important part of this group's charge is to develop policies regarding appropriate access to (and allocation of) HPC resources, including the Biowulf cluster.

To make sure that the Biowulf resource is well-managed and used to its best advantage, all Biowulf users will now be asked to renew their accounts each year.

The information collected during the registration process will help the HPC Working Group develop long-range plans aimed at meeting the HPC needs of the Intramural community. It will allow us to provide aggregate usage data to the Scientific Directors on a regular basis, so that they can monitor their own Intramural program's overall use of computational resources.

When completing the Biowulf recertification form, please note that you will be asked to provide the name of the Principal Investigator (PI) who leads your research group, since they will be asked to approve your account renewal. Once your request has been approved, you will receive a confirmation E-mail that your account has been renewed for the upcoming 12 months.

Andy Baxevanis, Ph.D.
Director of Computational Biology, NIH Office of Intramural Research
Head, Computational Genomics Unit, National Human Genome Research Institute
Acting Scientific Director, Center for Information Technology
