NIH Helix & Biowulf Systems Downtime, Oct 13-16, 2016
Date: 29 September 2016 14:09:18
From: Helix Systems Staff
Please note the dates and times of this extended maintenance window.
Starting at 7 am on Thursday October 13 and extending through Sunday October 16, the NIH Helix and Biowulf systems staff will be performing extensive reconfigurations of the network and storage systems in preparation for the expansion of the Biowulf cluster.
The Helix system will be rebooted on Thursday October 13 at 7 am and is expected to remain online afterwards for the duration of the maintenance window. However, data directories located on a gpfs file system (/gs2, /gs3, /gs4 and /gs5) will be unavailable during this time. Helix mail and access to home directories as well as data directories located on /spin1 will be unaffected. The location of your data or shared data directory can be determined by running 'checkquota --gpfs'.
The Biowulf cluster will be unavailable starting on Thursday October 13 at 7 am and all running and queued cluster jobs will be deleted at that time. The Biowulf login node will be unavailable for the duration of the maintenance window.
Helixdrive (mapped /home or /data directories) & Mascot services will also be unavailable for the duration of the maintenance window.
All services are expected to be available no later than Sunday October 16 at 6 pm.
Thank you for your patience as we prepare for a substantial increase in compute capacity of the Biowulf cluster. If you have any questions, please contact the NIH HPC staff at staff@helix.nih.gov.
