Discontinuing SSH to Helix from Outside the NIH Network
Date: 07 September 2017 15:09:29
From: Helix Systems Staff
This is the second of two very important messages.
Remote access to Helix (SSH) from outside the NIH network will be discontinued by November 30, 2017 to comply with HSPD-12 and other security mandates. After November 30, you must be on the NIH network or the NIH virtual private network (VPN) to access Helix.
Accessing the NIH network from a remote location requires the following:
- Government-furnished equipment (GFE), such as a laptop
- Smart card (PIV card) authentication
- Internet access
- The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client software used by NIH for secure remote access
Your information system security office (ISSO) can provide specific guidance for your IC. If you need help configuring your NIH equipment, please contact the NIH IT Service Desk.
Additional information about this change can be found on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, https://hpc.nih.gov/docs/discontinue_remote_access.html
If you have concerns or questions that are not covered on the FAQ page, please contact NIH HPC (Helix/Biowulf) staff at staff@helix.nih.gov
